Who plays on ‘Thursday Night Football’ tonight? Time, TV channel, schedule for NFL Week 15

Viewers of “Thursday Night Football” will enjoy one of the best matchups of the season in Week 15. Two of the best teams in the AFC West will battle it out to see which team has the inside court for the division title race.

Right now, Kansas City is hands down the favorite. They are on a six-game winning streak and are currently one game ahead of the second-place team in their division. Those would be the Chargers, who could match the Chiefs’ record with a victory at “TNF” and would surpass them in the divisional race due to tiebreakers.

Both teams have excellent young quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes is the NFL’s half-billion dollar man and while he’s had his share of struggles this year, he’s played better in recent weeks and is starting to get a little sharper. Meanwhile, Justin Herbert has a huge arm and is proving to be a hyper-accurate deep passer in just his second pro season. If anyone can go head-to-head with Mahomes, it is him.

Even with a loss, the Chargers will remain locked in a playoff spot until at least Sunday. But with a win, they can create some more of the chaos we’ve come to see so far during the 2021 NFL season. Can you do it? We will see very soon.

Below is everything you need to know about Thursday night’s showdown, plus everything you need to know to watch the first game of Week 15 of the 2021 NFL season.

Who is playing ‘Thursday Night Football’ tonight?

  • Match: Chiefs at Chargers
  • Location: SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The Chiefs (9-4) will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers (8-5) on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 15. This game will decide whether the Chiefs will maintain a two-game lead in the AFC West. with three weeks to play or whether the two rivals will be tied for the top of the division with the Chargers in possession of the tiebreaker.

The Chargers have already beaten the Chiefs once this year. They earned a 30-24 victory against them in a Week 3 contest in which Kansas City committed four nil turnovers in Los Angeles. Justin Herbert has had a solid second season with the Chargers, but he may need help from his skill position weapons to defeat the Chiefs.

Keenan Allen missed last week’s game while on the COVID list while running back Austin Ekeler was eliminated from the game with a knee injury. Brandon Staley expressed confidence that both could play in the short week, and if they do, that will give Herbert enough firepower to do some damage against a Chiefs defense that has played extremely well in recent weeks.

The Kansas City defense has allowed 17 points or less in each game of its six-game winning streak. They have allowed exactly nine points in three straight games, but it can be difficult for them to keep Herbert and the mighty Chargers at such a low point total.

As such, Patrick Mahomes will need to come prepared to help run the Chiefs’ offense. He helped orchestrate a 48-point outing against the Raiders and will be looking to keep warm. He should also get a lot of support from his running game, as the Chargers have allowed the second-most rushing yards per game this season (140.7).

The Chiefs are the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoff race entering Week 15, while the Chargers are the best Wild Card team at 8-5. Both are on track to make the playoffs and this could end up being a Wild Card preview depending on how the matchups play out in the AFC.

NFL Week 15 Schedule

The game Chargers vs. Chiefs will be the first of 16 NFL games in Week 14. The two teams are vying for position atop the packed AFC West, but the Chiefs currently have the upper hand. If they can win, they will prepare to win the division title for the sixth year in a row with Andy Reid.

The other two primetime games of Week 15 will also be divisional matchups, although they are slightly less important. The Buccaneers have a dominant advantage over the Saints in the NFC South, and they will have a chance to secure a division title with a “Sunday Night Football” victory. Tom Brady has yet to beat the Saints in three regular-season attempts with the Bucs, so that adds importance to this matchup.

“Monday Night Football” will feature the Bears and Vikings. The Vikings are fighting for a playoff spot and both coaches, Minnesota’s Mike Zimmer and Chicago’s Matt Nagy, are fighting for their jobs as the season draws to a close. So, from that point of view, this game could be critical.

One of the funniest matchups on the agenda is the Cardinals traveling to Detroit to face the Lions. The Cardinals are arguably the best team in the league, while the Lions may be the worst. That said, Dan Campbell’s group has played tough when healthy, so perhaps the Lions can stay that close early on to make it interesting.
