Premier League players involved in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying during January international window

The January international window is known to be the crucial time for World Cup qualification, and that’s no different this cycle as teams can seal a place in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

As a result, many of the Premier League’s best players have already traveled to join the national teams, with places in the 2022 World Cup on the line.

In this window, only three of the five confederations have active World Cup qualifying matches underway: Asia (CAF), North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). All three confederations use a round-robin style qualification table. CONCACAF qualifying has six games remaining, which equates to three games per window between now and March, while both the AFC and CONMEBOL have four games remaining, which equates to two per window.

Two confederations will not see World Cup qualifying matches in this window: Africa (CAF) and Europe (UEFA). CAF currently has the African Cup of Nations underway, and will not reach its final round of World Cup qualifying matches until the international window in March. UEFA have already confirmed 10 of their 13 places, with the rest to be decided during the international window in March via three knockout mini-groups.

Which Premier League players were called up for World Cup qualification?

With only CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and AFC in World Cup qualifying action this international break, these are the players from each team who have left after being named to an international roster this window.

Manchester United have the most, thanks in part to a couple of Brazilians, while Aston Villa, Brighton, Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham have three players taking part. Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Norwich City and Southampton have no players participating in World Cup qualifying in this international window.
