Impact Wrestling’s Knockouts division has broken down barriers over the years with wrestlers and matches that have captivated fans around the world. Today, Impact is home to some of the best female fighters in the world. They will have the opportunity to prove it this Saturday, January 8, at Hard to Kill when they compete in the first Knockouts Ultimate X match.
The Ultimate X match is known as the signature match of the X-Division. This year, however, the Knockouts are looking to change all that. Jordynne Grace, Chelsea Green, Lady Frost, Alisha Edwards, Rosemary and Tasha Steelz will compete to determine the number one contender for the Impact Knockouts Championship.
Grace, a former Impact Knockouts Champion, Knockouts Tag Team Champion, and current Impact Digital Media Champion, has had an impressive career in just a short span of time. The 25-year-old is known to risk it all. His persistence, according to Impact Wrestling Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore, helped pave the way for this match to happen.
Before Hard to Kill, Grace spoke to Sporting News about her thoughts on the match and her goals for 2022.
Me, Tasha Steelz and Alisha Edwards, along with a few others, brought Scott into the ring during Slammiversary. The Ultimate X platform was set up for when Josh Alexander went to defend his title. I was joking at first, and I didn’t think he would consider it. I asked when the first Knockouts Ultimate X would be. At first he was laughing and said if you can go up there give it a try. We all did, and that’s what made his gears turn a bit.
In the past, some of the Knockouts may have been able to climb the ropes, but they may not be able to stay there long enough to achieve combat. I think a lot of Knockouts now have a lot of upper body strength, like me. I can hang on the ropes forever.
The most difficult thing about Ultimate X is that if you have a fear of heights, like me, it is very scary. That is one of the biggest things I have to overcome. To be fair, when I climbed when I was with Scott, it was only with wrestlers there. It will be very different when the fans and my family are there cheering. I feel like I won’t be afraid when the environment is different.
This game is very important. This is one of the only games that has not had a Knockouts version. It is important and a big part of history to be a part of it. Honestly, I’m super excited that we can make this happen and that Scott agrees. I didn’t think it would happen so fast. Maybe six months have passed since that conversation. I thought it would be more convincing than it was. I am happy that he is 100% behind this.
I want to see any woman, or me, challenge and win the Division X Championship and become Impact World Champion again.
