Is Baker Mayfield playing in week 15?

Mayfield supposedly tested positive for COVID-19, and to be available for week 15, you must have two negative tests 24 hours apart before kickoff. As we are only two days from Saturday, time is running out, but we cannot know for sure what its status will be (although it does not look very good). Ultimately, no one in the single-QB leagues is starting Mayfield to begin with, so this will have a bigger impact on the two-QB / superflex leagues and single-game DFS gurus. We most likely know the state of Mayfield long before the start so this shouldn’t be down to the wire.

What we can do is find out how his absence would affect other players. Unfortunately, Jarvis Landry and Austin Hooper also ended up on the reserve / COVID-19 list, as did head coach Kevin Stefanski. All that said, it’s hard to really love someone in the Browns passing game. Still, Mayfield and his pass receivers haven’t been solid fantasy picks, so even if one or all three play, it’s not like they’re mandatory starts. Obviously Nick Chubb can’t be benched anyway, especially since Kareem Hunt (ankle) will almost certainly be out.

If Baker plays, you may consider playing Hooper or Landry (especially Hooper since TE is skinny and this is a great TE showdown), but again, they’re not sure about things. Realistically, you’re not playing any Browns pass catchers if Baker is out, but at least considering one or more of them if he plays.

Mayfield’s direct backup is Case Keenum, but again, neither should start in single QB formats. We rate Mayfield as QB18 if he plays, but his floor is much lower given the uncertainty surrounding his team.
